In April 2015, Microsoft completed its acquisition of Revolution Analytics, the leading commercial provider of software and services for R, the world’s most widely used programming language for statistical computing and predictive analytics. Revolution Analytics products include Revolution R Open (RRO), a free, enhanced open source R distribution; Revolution R Plus (RRP), which adds a subscription-based technical support and indemnification package to RRO; and Revolution R Enterprise (RRE), which delivers parallelized analytics to the heart of Big Data platforms, including data warehouses and Hadoop.
Beginning January 1, 2016, the RRE product offerings for non-Windows platforms are being rebranded under the Microsoft R Server product family and made available to Volume Licensing customers in selected programs worldwide:
Offered in 2-core license packs and licensed under the Per Core licensing model:
- R Server for Red Hat Linux
- R Server for SUSE Linux
Offered as per server licenses and licensed under the Specialty Server licensing model:
- R Server for Hadoop on Red Hat
- R Server for Teradata DB
Concurrent with the availability of the above R Server products for non-Windows platforms, Microsoft is also making the current (standalone) version of RRE for Windows available to existing SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition customers with active Software Assurance (SA) coverage. These customers can access software for RRE for Windows via the Volume License Service Center (VLSC) as part of the SQL Server 2014 Enterprise and SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Core product downloads.
