October 28, 2025: Adobe announced at its Adobe MAX 2025 conference the introduction of a new AI Assistant (in beta) within Adobe Express. This AI Assistant provides a conversational way for users to create and edit content by simply describing what they want to see. It is designed to help people of all skill levels move from an idea to a finished piece of content in just minutes, without needing advanced design skills.
As of the announcement, the AI Assistant is available in beta (a test version) for Adobe Express Premium subscribers on desktop. Adobe indicates that once the assistant reaches general availability (the full release), it will become accessible to all Adobe Express users via Adobe’s Firefly generative credit system. This means every user will eventually be able to use the assistant’s features, with a certain number of AI-driven actions provided and the option to purchase additional credit packs if needed for heavier use.
What is AI Assistant in Adobe Express
Adobe Express is an online design and content creation tool aimed at helping users make graphics, documents, and videos easily. The new AI Assistant in Adobe Express is an AI-driven feature that acts like a conversational helper within the app. It allows users to generate or modify designs by typing or speaking natural-language instructions, instead of manually searching through menus or tools. In other words, you can simply tell the assistant what kind of image or layout you want, or how to change your current design, and it will attempt to do it for you.
For example, if you tell the assistant “Make this more tropical,” it will interpret the request and adjust your design accordingly. It might replace a mountain background with lush tropical foliage and vibrant flowers and even suggest changing the font and colors to match the new theme. The AI Assistant understands the context of your project – it recognizes the different elements in your design (text, images, backgrounds, styles) – and it makes smart changes while keeping the rest of the design intact. Importantly, you can switch between using the AI Assistant and the regular Adobe Express editing tools at any time. The assistant can handle the heavy lifting for quick results, and you are free to fine-tune details manually (using sliders, color pickers, etc.) to get the exact look you want.
Key Features
- Conversational creation and editing: Design content by having a simple conversation. You can ask for changes in plain language (for example, “add a blue background” or “make the text larger”) and the AI Assistant will carry out the request within Adobe Express. This removes the need to manually find the right tools or menu options for common tasks.
- Context-aware suggestions: The assistant understands your design’s context, such as the existing style and elements. It can recommend or apply changes that fit the theme of your project or match your brand’s style, sometimes even asking follow-up questions to refine the result.
- Targeted, non-destructive edits: You can ask the AI Assistant to modify specific parts of a design (like changing only the background image or updating a single text box) without affecting other parts. It preserves the sections of your content that you want to keep, so you don’t have to worry about undoing unwanted changes or starting over from scratch.
- Integration with chat platforms: Adobe has built the AI Assistant to work across popular messaging and chatbot platforms as well. This means you could create or edit designs through a conversational interface on other services (for instance, via a chat app), giving you more flexibility in where and how you use Adobe Express in the future.
- Upcoming enterprise features: Adobe is developing enterprise-grade capabilities for the AI Assistant to help businesses and teams. Planned features include locked templates (to ensure employees stay on-brand), batch content creation, and approval workflows built into Adobe Express. These will make it easier and safer for whole teams or organizations to use the assistant for their content creation needs while maintaining brand consistency.
Licensing
The AI Assistant is part of the Adobe Express product offering. During the beta period, this feature is available only to users with an Adobe Express Premium subscription (the paid plan) on desktop. Once the assistant moves out of beta to general availability, all Adobe Express users (including those on the free plan) will have access to it, regulated by Adobe’s Firefly generative credit system. In this system, a certain number of AI-generated actions (credits) are included for each user, and additional credits can be purchased if needed for extended use.
