Microsoft Dragon Copilot: Price decrease & Licensing changes

Adopt Dragon Copilot with simpler and more competitive pricing: effective May 1, 2026, Microsoft reduces the per‑user license price for Dragon Copilot across all supported countries and unites enterprise capabilities under a single license.

Summary

  • The Dragon Copilot per‑user license price is reduced starting May 1, 2026
  • The Physician Practice offer is discontinued, with all customers moving to the standard per‑user license
  • All enterprise Dragon Copilot capabilities are now included in one per‑user license
  • Usage‑based pricing is simplified, with ambient and generative AI billed per encounter

What is Microsoft Dragon Copilot?

Microsoft Dragon Copilot is an AI‑powered clinical documentation and workflow assistant designed for healthcare professionals. It combines speech recognition, ambient documentation, and generative AI to help clinicians create clinical notes, summaries, and documentation directly from conversations and spoken input.

Dragon Copilot is built on Microsoft’s secure cloud platform and is designed to reduce administrative burden, improve documentation quality, and support efficient clinical workflows across different care settings.

Licensing and Pricing Changes for Dragon Copilot

Starting May 1, 2026, Microsoft reduces the list price of the Dragon Copilot per‑user subscription across all countries where the product is currently available, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, and Canada.

At the same time, Microsoft discontinues the Dragon Copilot Physician Practice offer. All customers are transitioned to the standard per‑user license, which now includes the full enterprise feature set by default.

As part of this update:

  • All enterprise Dragon Copilot capabilities are included in a single per‑user license
  • There are no functional differences between former offer variants
  • User assignment and license planning are simplified
  • Capability access is consistent per licensed user, regardless of practice size or deployment model

Microsoft also simplifies usage‑based pricing for Dragon Copilot AI capabilities. Beginning May 1, 2026:

  • Ambient encounters are billed per encounter, instead of per generated note
  • Generative AI usage is billed per encounter, instead of per individual AI action

This simplifies cost tracking and forecasting, especially in environments with variable clinical workflows.

Why Microsoft updated Dragon Copilot pricing

Microsoft continues to see growing demand for AI‑assisted documentation and clinical workflows. However, feedback from partners and customers showed that pricing complexity limited broader adoption.

Earlier Dragon Copilot licensing models differentiated between user types and capability scopes. This made it harder to forecast costs and scale deployments consistently. Microsoft introduces this update to simplify licensing, improve price competitiveness, and make Dragon Copilot easier to position and manage in CSP environments.

Put simply: customers and partners now get one clearer license, at a lower price, with fewer pricing variables to manage.

What customers need to do now

  • No action is required to activate the new pricing
  • Existing customers will transition automatically
  • New deployments can start immediately under the updated model from May 1, 2026
  • Consult with a licensing expert to understand the cost and compliance implications of these changes
