Effective September 10, 2025, Microsoft has extended the availability of Cross-Region Disaster Recovery to Windows 365 Frontline in Dedicated Mode. Previously, this feature was only available as an add-on license for Windows 365 Enterprise.

Cross-Region Disaster Recovery is now available for:

  • Windows 365 Enterprise (Add-on license)
  • Windows 365 Frontline in Dedicated Mode (New availability as of October 10, 2025)

This update allows organizations using Windows 365 Frontline in Dedicated Mode to enhance business continuity and resilience across geographic regions.

What is Windows 365 Frontline?

Windows 365 Frontline is a cloud-based service from Microsoft that provides secure, personalized Windows experiences for shift workers and frontline employees. It enables multiple users to share a single license, with access to their own Cloud PC during their shift.

Dedicated Mode refers to a configuration where each user is assigned a dedicated Cloud PC, rather than sharing resources dynamically.

Key Features of Cross-Region Disaster Recovery

Cross-Region Disaster Recovery helps organizations maintain access to Cloud PCs during regional outages. Key features include:

  • Geo-redundancy: Cloud PCs are replicated across multiple Azure regions.
  • Failover capability: In case of a regional failure, users can access their Cloud PCs from a secondary region.
  • Business continuity: Minimizes downtime and disruption for critical operations.
  • Compliance support: Helps meet regulatory requirements for data availability and disaster recovery.

Licensing

Cross-Region Disaster Recovery is offered as an add-on license. It is not included by default in Windows 365 subscriptions.

  • For Windows 365 Enterprise, the add-on license has been available for some time.
  • For Windows 365 Frontline in Dedicated Mode, the add-on license is available since September 10, 2025.
