Effective July 28, 2025, Progress Software has officially launched a new add-on for its managed file transfer (MFT) solution: Progress MOVEit Web Application Firewall (WAF). This new component is designed specifically for MOVEit Transfer on-premises customers and is now available for licensing through SCHNEIDER IT MANAGEMENT.
What is MOVEit Transfer?
MOVEit Transfer is a secure file transfer solution that helps organizations reliably exchange sensitive data with internal systems and external partners while meeting compliance, governance, and service-level requirements.
What is MOVEit WAF?
To protect these file transfers from cyber threats, MOVEit Web Application Firewall (WAF) acts as a security layer in front of MOVEit Transfer. It inspects incoming web traffic and blocks malicious requests before they can reach the system, helping prevent data breaches and ensuring safe, uninterrupted file exchange.
This is especially important for companies that regularly exchange sensitive files—such as contracts, customer data, or financial reports—with partners or internal systems. By filtering out threats early, MOVEit WAF helps reduce the risk of cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and data breaches. It is particularly valuable in complex environments with high traffic volumes or multiple connected systems.

MOVEit Cloud Customers Already Have WAF
As of March 4, 2025, the Web Application Firewall (WAF) functionality is already included at no additional cost in MOVEit Cloud subscriptions – a cloud-based deployment of MOVEit Transfer. This means you benefit from enhanced security and compliance without needing to manage or update the firewall yourself.
