Effective May 21, 2025, Microsoft has officially released GitHub Copilot for Azure, a powerful new extension for Visual Studio Code that helps you develop, deploy, and manage applications on Microsoft Azure more efficiently.
What is GitHub Copilot for Azure?
GitHub Copilot for Azure is an extension for Visual Studio Code that combines the capabilities of GitHub Copilot with deep integration into Microsoft Azure. It supports two main modes: Agent Mode and Ask Mode.
- Agent Mode helps you complete Azure-related tasks automatically. For example, it can generate deployment scripts, check your Azure environment, or suggest best practices for using Azure services.
- Ask Mode allows you to chat with an AI assistant called @azure. You can ask questions about Azure services, troubleshoot issues, or get help with cost management and infrastructure design.
This tool is especially useful for IT professionals and developers who want to streamline their Azure workflows without needing to memorize every command or setting.
