Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers: Build where you deploy

Effective July 9, 2025, Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers is available and allows developers to build and test applications on the same platform used in production, without needing to go through centralized IT channels.

What is Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers?

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers (short: RHEL for Business Developers) is a free version of Red Hat’s Linux platform that is specially made for business development teams.

It helps developers build and test software on the same system that is used in production. This means that the final version of the software will run more smoothly and consistently when it goes live.

RHEL for Business Developers is available through the Red Hat Developer Program and allows registered users to self-serve up to 25 instances, whether physical, virtual, or cloud based.

What do you get with it?

You can access Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers by signing up for the Red Hat Developer Program:

  • Use up to 25 systems (computers or virtual machines) for development and testing—without paying anything.
  • Access popular programming tools and databases, all verified and safe to use.
  • Use Podman Desktop, a tool that helps you create and manage software containers (like lightweight packages of software that run anywhere).
  • Choose to buy support from Red Hat experts, if you want help or advice.

Why did Red Hat release this solution?

IT environments become increasingly complex. From physical servers, over virtual machines and cloud platforms to edge computing, secure workflows remain key. RHEL for Business Developers helps reduce friction between development and operations teams by ensuring everyone works on the same reliable and secure platform.

This is especially important given the increasing risks in cybersecurity, including software vulnerabilities and supply chain attacks. By using RHEL for both development and production, you can improve security posture and streamline application deployment.

Who can benefit?

This free solution is ideal for:

  • Business developers: People who build software but don’t work directly in the IT department. Now they can start projects more easily.
  • Development teams: Teams that want to test and build software on the same system that will be used when the software goes live. This helps avoid problems later.
  • Decision makers: Organizations that want to save time and reduce confusion between different teams (like developers and IT operations).
