Effective October 14, 2025, Microsoft Windows 10 reaches end of support. For organizations that must continue using Windows 10 after this date, Microsoft offers the paid Extended Security Update (ESU) program. Customers running Windows 10 in Azure Virtual Desktop will be entitled to free ESUs.
Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for Windows 10 available to consumers for the first time
Microsoft has announced new details about the availability of Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESUs): Effective 1 September 2025, Microsoft will make Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for Windows 10 available to consumers for the first time. These updates will cost $30 per year, but users can also get them for free if they use Windows Backup or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points. Each license covers up to 10 devices.
Availability of Windows 10 ESUs
- Available now for organizations via Enterprise Agreement (EA)
- Available from 1 September 2025 through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program
- Available from 1 September 2025 to consumers for the first time
