Microsoft Maintains Pricing: No Currency-Based Adjustments

On July 1, 2025, Microsoft announced that there will be no price adjustments in September 2025 for its Commercial Cloud services and on-premises software due to currency fluctuations. This decision comes after Microsoft’s latest semi-annual foreign exchange review, which found no significant currency shifts to justify a pricing update. Any product-specific or consumer price changes (unrelated to currency exchange) will be communicated separately, but none were announced in this update.

Background: Microsoft’s Currency-Based Pricing Reviews

Microsoft adjusts local pricing periodically to maintain consistent global pricing for customers. In practice, this means Microsoft reviews exchange rates twice a year and aligns local currency prices with the US dollar baseline if needed. This semi-annual price alignment process ensures that customers around the world pay roughly the equivalent price, regardless of currency fluctuations. With relatively stable foreign exchange rates recently, Microsoft’s latest evaluation did not warrant any price changes, especially with the US Dollar being rather weak.

What This Means for You

This news is reassuring as you will not see any sudden price hikes or drops on Microsoft Cloud services or software licenses purely because of currency fluctuations. Your current budgets and cost projections can proceed without adjustment, which makes financial planning easier and more predictable.

Currency review cycle:

Azure pricing is unaffected

Note that this currency-based pricing announcement does not apply to Azure services purchased through a Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA), the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program, or directly via Microsoft’s online portal. Those Azure services are priced based on US dollars globally, and the exchange rate for the local currency is set on a monthly basis as before.

Looking ahead

While there are no changes this July, Microsoft may adjust prices in the future depending on currency fluctuations. The next potential update could occur in February 2026 and will be announced in early December 2025. Any product-specific or consumer price changes will continue to be communicated separately.
