Effective July 11, 2024, Oracle Exadata Exascale, an intelligent data architecture for the cloud, is available. This new service offers high performance for all Oracle Database workloads, including AI, analytics, and transactions, at any scale. Exadata Exascale is currently available with the Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure and Oracle Database 23ai on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). In the future, it will be available in Exadata Cloud@Customer, OCI Dedicated Region, and multicloud environments.
What is Oracle Exadata Exascale?
Oracle Exadata Exascale is an advanced cloud-based data architecture designed to deliver high performance for Oracle Database workloads. It is based on Exadata, Oracle’s computing platform designed to run Oracle Databases. Exadata Exascale is specifically designed for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). It combines the best features of Exadata’s intelligent database architecture with the flexibility and scalability of the cloud.
Exadata Exascle offers these improvements over Exadata:
- Elastic Resources: Only pay for the resources you use. There are no extra charges for Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS). This means you can scale your resources up or down based on your needs.
- Intelligent Storage Cloud: Smart data distribution and optimization ensure that data is stored and accessed efficiently, speeding up database queries and improving overall performance.
- Cost Reduction: Save up to 95% in costs.
Key features
- Intelligent Storage Cloud: This storage cloud uses Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA)-technology to distribute databases across all storage servers. It speeds up database queries with Smart Scan and ensures high fault tolerance by replicating data on three servers.
- Intelligent AI: AI Smart Scan offloads intensive AI Vector Search tasks to the Exascale storage cloud, making these operations up to 30 times faster.
- Intelligent Online Transaction Processing (OLTP): Exadata Exascale scales databases efficiently across virtual machine clusters, allowing more users to perform transactions simultaneously with minimal delay. This ensures that critical transactions are completed quickly.
- Intelligent Analytics: Exadata Exascale automatically handles complex SQL queries by using its intelligent storage cloud, which significantly boosts data processing speed. It also converts data into a fast, in-memory format for quicker analysis.
- Database-Aware Intelligent Clones: Users can quickly create full or thin database copies using redirect-on-write technology. Advanced snapshots make it easy to create space-efficient clones with the same performance as the original databases.
