Effective July 1, 2022, Veeam will stop the sale of per-socket perpetual licenses for Veeam Backup Essentials and Veeam ONE to both new and existing customers for all editions. It will also stop the sale of per-socket perpetual licenses for Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Availability Suite for new customers.
Effective January 1, 2023, Veeam will then also stop the sale of per-socket perpetual licenses for Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Availability Suite for exisiting customers.
Veeam Universal License (VUL) is an easy-to-use, per-workload license, available via subscription or perpetual options, for protecting data across on premises and multi-cloud environments. VUL is portable and transferable, and thus future-proof, moving easily across VMware, Hyper-V, Windows, Linux, NAS, Azure, AWS and beyond.
Until June 30, 2022, existing per-socket customers of Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Availability Suite / Veeam Backup Essentials and Veeam ONE can buy and migrate to VUL, renew their contracts, and buy sockets. When migrating to VUL, Veeam ONE migrates to Veeam Availability Suite VUL, all other offerings migrate to their VUL equivalent. New customers can buy VUL and sockets, but when buying sockets, they may only purchase Enterprise Plus edition per socket licenses for Veeam Availability Suite/Veeam Backup & Replication, any edition of Veeam Backup Essentials, and Veeam ONE with Production support. Existing customers may purchase more sockets at the edition and support level of what they already own.
Note, that sockets only cover VMware/Hyper-V Virtual Machines (VMs). In a socket/VUL mixed environment, VUL can only be used for everything else. After July 1, 2022, if additional backup is needed for VMware/Hyper-V VMs, migration to VUL is necessary.
