October 28, 2025, Adobe announced at Adobe MAX 2025 a major expansion of Adobe Firefly, its generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) creative platform. This update introduces powerful new features for audio, video, and image creation, alongside new AI models and a creative assistant. Key additions include AI-generated music and voice tools, an AI-driven video editor, a high-resolution image generation model, integration of various industry AI models, and even the ability for users to train custom models in their own style. Adobe also unveiled Project Moonlight, a forthcoming conversational AI assistant to help creators move from concept to content more quickly by simply describing their vision. Many of these new capabilities are available in beta as of the announcement, with wider rollouts expected by late 2025.
Notably, Adobe is offering unlimited generative outputs to all Firefly and Creative Cloud Pro plan subscribers as a promotional benefit through January 14, 2026.

Adobe Firefly is an all-in-one creative studio powered by generative AI – a form of artificial intelligence that can create new content from user prompts. In simple terms, Firefly allows users to generate and edit images, videos, audio, and designs just by telling the software what they want. It brings together multiple advanced AI models into one platform, so creators have a one-stop solution for AI-assisted content creation. Importantly, content made with Firefly is designed to be safe for commercial use – all AI-generated outputs are fully licensed for users, meaning businesses and individuals can confidently use Firefly’s creations in their projects without legal worries.
Key Features
Adobe Firefly’s update at MAX 2025 introduced several key features and improvements:
- Music Generation (Generate Soundtrack) – Firefly can now create original, fully licensed background music tracks from a text prompt. This “Generate Soundtrack” feature uses Adobe’s AI music model to produce studio-quality instrumental soundtracks in seconds. The generated music is royalty-free and synced to match video timing, making it easy to add custom audio to projects.
- Voiceover Generation (Generate Speech) – The new “Generate Speech” feature converts text into a crystal-clear voice recording. Users can choose from multiple voice styles and languages to create lifelike voiceovers for videos or presentations. The AI can adjust tone, pacing, and emotion, resulting in natural-sounding narration that is ready to use (without the need for human voice actors).
- AI Video Editor – Adobe Firefly now includes a timeline-based AI video editing tool (currently in beta). This web-based editor lets creators generate and arrange video clips using AI. Users can quickly produce short video content by combining their own footage with AI-generated clips, add voiceovers or soundtracks (from the tools above), and even generate starting or ending frames via prompts. The editor supports precise, frame-by-frame edits as well as text-based editing via transcripts, simplifying the video creation process for non-experts.
- Photorealistic Image Generation (Firefly Image Model 5) – Firefly’s latest image model (version 5) can generate highly detailed, photorealistic images at a native 4 megapixel (4MP) resolution without upscaling. Creators can produce lifelike images of people, objects, or scenes just by describing them. This model also enables prompt-based image editing – meaning you can type an instruction (in plain language) to modify an existing image (for example, “change the background to a sunset beach”) and Firefly will apply the change. The improved image model excels at capturing lighting, textures, and accurate human anatomy in generated images.
- Custom Generative AI Models – A new capability called Firefly Custom Models allows users to train Firefly with their own content to produce results in a specific style. In practice, a creator can upload a set of images (that they have rights to) as examples, and Firefly will create a private AI model based on that style. The user can then generate a whole series of assets that all share this unique, personalized look. Custom models are private by default – they won’t be accessible to others unless the creator chooses to share them. This feature is currently in private beta, with a wider release expected soon.
- Project Moonlight (AI Assistant) – Project Moonlight is an upcoming AI assistant integrated into Firefly. It acts as a conversational helper for creatives. Users will be able to interact with this assistant by typing requests or questions, much like chatting with a colleague. For example, you can ask for design suggestions, help brainstorming ideas, or even request the assistant to perform certain actions across Adobe apps. Project Moonlight can pull insights from your existing content or even social media trends to provide personalized recommendations. While still in beta, this assistant is poised to help users go from an initial concept to a finished piece of content faster, by providing intelligent guidance and doing some of the heavy lifting via AI – all while keeping the user in control of the creative process.
Licensing
Adobe Firefly is offered as a subscription-based service, separate from the standard Creative Cloud application bundle. Adobe has introduced dedicated Firefly plans to cater to different usage needs:
- Firefly Standard – This plan includes unlimited image and vector generations, plus a monthly allocation of credits for premium video and audio generation. The Standard plan provides up to approximately 20 short Full HD (1080p) video generations per month using 2,000 credits.
- Firefly Pro – This higher-tier plan offers a larger monthly credit allowance for generative AI, supporting roughly 70 short video generations per month (7,000 credits), in addition to unlimited image/vector creation.
- Firefly Premium (Upcoming) – Adobe has signaled a forthcoming Premium plan designed for professionals and teams with very high volume needs. This plan will provide even greater capacity for generating video and audio content at scale (details on pricing and limits to be announced).
Note: As a special offer, all Creative Cloud Pro subscribers and Firefly plan subscribers can enjoy unlimited image and video generations with Firefly through January 14, 2026. This means that during the promotional period, the usual credit limits are lifted, allowing users to experiment freely with Firefly’s generative features. After this date, the standard credit limits of each plan will apply.
