Microsoft Visual Studio for Mac retirement

Microsoft has recently announced the retirement of Visual Studio for Mac. They outlined their decision to focus on enhancing Visual Studio Code as the primary development environment for Mac users. This shift aims to provide a more streamlined and efficient coding experience.

The retirement process will occur in two phases. First, Microsoft will cease providing updates and support for Visual Studio for Mac in June 2024. Afterward, the software will enter a “maintenance mode” until June 2027, during which only critical security updates will be issued.

Mac developers are encouraged to transition to Visual Studio Code, which offers a wide range of extensions and features, including cross-platform compatibility and a vibrant community. Microsoft is committed to ensuring a smooth migration and will provide resources and guidance to aid developers in this transition.
